Miss Rose: Working as a Post Op Trans Escort in Australia

By Amelia P

Today on the blog, I’m talking to Miss Rose, a mature post-op trans woman who has been working as an escort in Australia for several years. Miss Rose was generous enough to share her view of the industry with me, and we touched on a bunch of great topics, including:

  • Her experience working as a post-op trans escort;
  • The difference between escort advertising for trans and cis women;
  • How she’s used business cards to nab clients;
  • Her unique mobile incall service (think: refrigerator truck turned luxury apartment – so cool!)

Amelia: Hey Miss Rose, thanks for chatting with me today! Could you maybe start by introducing yourself to the readers?

Miss Rose: Of course. My name is Miss Rose, and I’m a post-op trans woman. This means I’ve had bottom surgery (i.e., sexual reassignment surgery) and am legally and medically a woman. I’ve been in the industry for about two and a half years. Before I started, I worked in the marine industry, and they wouldn’t employ me anymore as a trans girl, so I ran out of options. That’s why I got into the industry. I did some sex work in my 20s, and so I decided to go back to it. I love what I do, and I’m not ashamed of it! If someone asks what I do for a living, I tell them. And if it’s a man, I give him my business card! I love being myself.

Amelia: Oh my gosh, I love that so much. What sort of sex work do you do at the moment?

Miss Rose: I do many things – the variety keeps it interesting and makes me more money. I go from basic girlfriend service to porn star service to full-on Mistress. I also enjoy and do professional sub services. Occasionally I teach Dom services as well – guys seem to be interested in that.

Amelia: Where do you see your career in the industry heading?

Miss Rose: Like I said, I love what I do. So, I do see myself being involved in the industry long-term. It’s not easy for me being in the industry as a post-op trans girl. But I do have an edge because there aren’t many post-op trans girls, and age doesn’t really seem to matter. COVID has had a major impact on my business, but things seem to be picking up slowly – I can pay my bills which is the main thing.

Amelia: You said that it’s not easy being in the industry as a post-op trans girl. Can you speak a little bit about your experience?

 Miss Rose: As a post-op trans girl, I think that things are very different for me than for cis girls. I get stupid questions all the time, things like, “How big is your tool?” I don’t have a tool, but I do have a beautiful, fully functional vagina! Marketing is especially difficult. I do advertise on some trans escort websites, but I also advertise on cis websites. I think my own website helps a lot because I can have more details and pictures, and I do focus on colours, branding, and logos. The other thing I love doing is handing out business cards – guys really love it, and I get quite a few bookings using that method.

Amelia: I really love that you hand out business cards! I think I’m way too shy to do that, but it sounds like it works! In terms of advertising, do you feel as though the mainstream websites for escorts in Australia are effective for you as a trans girl? Or do you feel that they cater mainly towards cis women?

 Miss Rose: Mainstream websites, in my opinion, only cater to the cis girls. Even if they have a trans section, as a post-op trans girl, I feel that I fall outside both groups. Also, clients don’t know much about post-op trans girls and need to be educated, so having my own website helps. A few websites out there listen to what I say and improve their websites accordingly, which is much appreciated.

Amelia: That makes so much sense about the categories – it must make it much harder for you to target your advertising towards the audience you want if there isn’t an easy way for them to find you. One thing I LOVE about you is that you have a mobile incall service. I’ve been following you on Twitter for a while and just LOVE it. I’ll put a picture in for the readers, but it’s like a little modified refrigerator truck that you’ve decked out as an incall, right? Can you talk about that a little bit?

Miss Rose: Yes, I love mobile incall service! I call her ‘Aphrodite’ – she is one of a kind! Basically, on the inside, Aphrodite looks like a fancy apartment on wheels. It has everything an apartment has: a queen size bed, full kitchen, shower with hot and cold running water, toilet, large wardrobe, my fancy makeup desk, and air-conditioning. I always park somewhere quiet, and from the outside, you can’t tell what it really is. Aphrodite is my home and place of work, which can be a bit complicated, but I love it. I always have everything with me. Also, if I have a few quiet days with work, it doesn’t cost me anything. It does mean I have to drive everywhere, and I have to worry more about my safety, but I’ve gotten most of that worked out pretty well. I’m happy to provide information to your readers if they are interested.

Amelia: That’s just so cool. It’s such a unique service to offer. I’ll make sure I link to your website and social media so that readers can get in touch if they are interested. What have your clients’ reactions to Aphrodite been?

Miss Rose: It has been a very mixed response from clients. Some will say, “I can’t see you if you are in a van,” so I explain that it is a high-end truck. Other clients come for the experience and the easy access – they can park right next to Aphrodite, less than a metre away, in an inconspicuous car park. So, I think what I lose in clients, I gain in clients, and I do have the option of driving to the clients’ property and still using Aphrodite, which is quite popular. The most funny time was when a certain client turned up in a Maserati and enjoy the delights that Aphrodite has to offer!

Amelia: It’s so great that you can have that convenience and different options for clients! I also noticed you show your face in your photos. That’s such a big decision for some people. Can you speak on that?

 Miss Rose: Since post-op trans is not an easy market, I do show my face. I’m not worried about being recognised on the street, and occasionally I do, and most of the time that results in a booking, with my business cards funnily enough. I know I can’t work overseas, but I have a European passport, so I could work in Europe if I wanted to.

Amelia: Oh, that’s cool! And what about professional photos? Some escorts place a lot of value on professional shoots, and others don’t. What are your thoughts?

Miss Rose: When I first started out, I knew there was a professional adult photographer living round the corner from where I was living, so I contacted him for advice. He has been my photographer ever since. I try to do a photoshoot every six months or so, to keep my pictures current. It makes such a huge difference. For me, my biggest thing is getting all the right outfits and the right equipment that I want in the shoot. I always pay extra for a makeup artist, and she also helps with other things like my lingerie, so I feel I get more pictures and look much better. I’m getting more organised and better every time – it’s just another skill to learn. My selfies are improving a lot too, and I’m getting much bolder in trying new things.

Amelia: Yeah, organisation is always a big thing with shoots. I think sometimes people don’t realise how much preparation it takes leading up to the actual shoot. Before we finish up, do you have any words of wisdom for the sex workers reading?

Miss Rose: Words of wisdom, a big one.Never give up on your dreams, and make sure you enjoy the ride. Ours is not an easy profession (despite what many people think), but peer support makes it a lot easier. I frequently ask for advice from my peers – it helps a lot and makes things easier. Don’t forget there are lots of awesome people out there, both peers and clients.I think if we all support each other, we all do better and we are all happier.
